(14 of 28) Persecution of the Huguenots according to Romeyn de Hooghe

N. William III of Orange and the representatives of the States General welcome the refugees from France. They wish to assist them. The date 1686 is inscribed on the bridge leading to the Prince. In the background a Huguenot church is being destroyed. The Prince of Orange promises to build new churches for the fugitives in the Netherlands, just as Brandenburg und Great Britain have done for their refugees. The size and content of the image in the middle are a pleasant contrast to the atrocities described above.
